Golden Yellow Bangalore Silk Saree with Reverse Kantha Rose Motif

Some things are more beautiful seen from behind the way a mother braids her daughter’s hair, the stitches on the wrong side of an embroidery that show you how much invisible work holds the visible beauty in place. The reverse kantha stitch is like this. It asks you to look at what is underneath, and to understand that the underside is where the love lives.

This pure Bangalore silk saree in golden yellow, with reverse kantha rose motif, is made from exactly that love stitched from beneath, blooming on top.

Reverse kantha is a particular form of embroidery where the design is worked from the back of the fabric, so that the reverse side — usually hidden — becomes the face. The golap (rose) motifs on this golden yellow Bangalore silk were stitched by a kantha artisan whose hands know this reversal so completely that she works it without a frame, the needle finding its way through layers of silk by touch and long practice. Each rose required hundreds of individual stitches, each one placed in the dark of the fabric’s underside.

Bangalore silk is among India’s finest — smooth, lustrous, and with a natural drape that makes it fall in long, unbroken lines from the shoulder. The golden yellow here is the colour of turmeric and early morning light — warm without being loud. Against the body, Bangalore silk is cool and seamless, like a second skin that happens to shimmer. Wearing this saree is wearing someone else’s patience, someone else’s love, now yours entirely.
