Two Traditions

This saree carries two embroidery traditions on a single cloth — kantha from Bengal and Gujarati work, brought together by artisans who practise each with equal seriousness. The dark maroon thread was chosen as the shared voice between them, running through both traditions and unifying what the border, palla, and buta say across the full six yards. It is collaborative work in the truest sense — two craft vocabularies finding common ground stitch by stitch.

The virgin tussar base — undyed, carrying the natural warm gold of the Kosa silkworm — was chosen because it holds both traditions without favouring either, its neutral warmth making the maroon thread glow against it rather than compete with it. Pure Tussar silk, spun from forest silkworms in Jharkhand and the tribal belts of eastern India, has a slightly irregular texture that gives it a handmade honesty. Against the skin, it is warm, grounding, and feels — from the very first wearing — like something you have always owned.
