The off-white and multicoloured batik detailing on this navy silk was built by a Bishnupur artist who works the light colours first — laying down wax over areas intended to remain pale — before plunging the silk into progressively darker dye baths. The navy base was the final immersion, deepening everything it touched while the wax held the light steady beneath it. The palla carries the most detail — an accumulation of pattern that rewards close looking.

Bishnupur silk’s dense weave holds deep colours with particular richness — navy on this silk is not flat but dimensional, shifting between blue and near-black as the light moves across it. The fabric drapes with a certain formality that is never cold — like the best kind of evening, dressed up but fully at ease. Against the skin, it is smooth, substantial, and quietly extraordinary.
